about
The name of Cape Finisterre, like that of Finistère in France, derives from the Latin 'finis terrae,' meaning 'ends of the earth.'
The coast of Finisterre is unprotected from the rough Atlantic sea, and is known locally as the Costa da Morte or 'Death Coast.' A well-earned moniker, this title refers to the innumerable shipwrecks that have occurred along the coastline, including that of the British ironclad HMS Captain in1870, which led to the loss of nearly 500 lives.
Cape Finisterre is the final destination on the 90km pilgrimage to the shrine of the apostle Saint James the Great - the patron saint of Spain - in the Cathedral of Santiago de CompostelaIt. Though the origin of the pilgrimage to Finisterre is not certain, it is believed to date from pre-Christian times and was possibly associated with Finisterre's status as the 'edge of the world.' It is recent tradition for pilgrims to burn their clothes or boots at the end of their journey.
lyrics
There's a storm where my heart should be. There's a fine line between foolishness and bravery. With one good kiss, you'll be swept out to sea and you'll never be heard from again. If we don't go now, you know we never will. The ends of the Earth are not far enough still. I've an ache in my bones and I thirst for the thrill when we'll fall off the edge of this map. I can feel the salt spray on my face, the deck swayin' 'lo my feet when I'm in your embrace. You need only ask me to leave this tired place and we'll never be heard from again. The red sky reflects in your eyes, weaves an old sailor's yarn of untimely demise. We'll drown in the the tears that our mommas will cry for they never will see us again.
